AirAsia places largest Airbus A220-order ever
During a special event at the Airbus-plant in Mirabel on 6 May 2026, Airbus and AirAsia signed the largest order for the A220 ever. The event was attended by, of course, the CEOs of Airbus Commercial Aircraft and AirAsia, but also by the Prime Ministers of Canada and Quebec.
In total the airline has ordered 150 A220-300s, which will be outfitted with 160 seats. This is a new configuration which is possible by adding a second overwing emergency exit. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2028.
With this latest order, Airbus has now received more than 1,000 orders for the A220, of which currently 501 have been delivered to 25 operators.
The AirAsia Group, is an all-Airbus operator and currently has a fleet that is made-up of 167 A320s, 40 A320neos, three A321-200P2Fs, sixteen A321neos, and 30 A330-300s.
