Airbus Updates No.3681

A330 lease-deal for Surinam Airways falls through

On 15 November, we reported that Surinam Airways signed a lease-agreement for the lease of a former Virgin Australia A330-200. Now, Surinam news outlets Waterkant and Dagblad Suriname are reporting that the deal has been canceled.

According to the news outlets, the supervisory board of lessor Global Knafaim has decided to back out of the deal and will use the aircraft within its own holding, which mirrors our previous reporting that the A330-200 9H-GKL (1293) will go to Tus Airways of Cyprus.

Airbus Updates No.3625

Tus Airways to expand fleet

CH-Aviation has held an interview with the CEO of Tus Airways. In the interview the airline has announced it will expland the fleet, first with an A330-200, which it will deploy as a "phreighter", a passenger aircraft outfitted to carry cargo. The Airbus involved is 9H-GKL (1293), which is former Virgin Australia VH-XFC and is owned by Global Knafaim Leasing. It arrived at Istabul on 2 November for maintenance and is set to enter service in January.

In February/March, the airline expects a second phreighter A330 and it's also looking to add up to six A320s for the 2022 summer season. Recently, Tus Airways sold 49,9% of its shares to Israeli-based Knafaim Holding and is using the raised money to boost its operations. The airline, launched in 2016, is offering scheduled flights out of Larnaca but also ACMI-operations. It plans to increase this last part to 20% of the business, mainly with the A330s, which it might also use for passenger charter flights later on.

Currently, Tus Airways' fleet consists of two Airbus A320s. In the past the airline operated five Fokker 70s, two Fokker 100s, two Saab 340s and three Saab 2000s.
