Air Mauritius puts A340s, A319s, and A330 up for sale

Air Mauritius (MK, Mauritius) has put part of its wholly-owned fleet of aircraft - two A340-300s, one A330-200, and two A319-100s - up for sale as part of its fundraising drive.

According to a Request For Proposals (RFP) published on July 7, the aircraft in question are:

• A340-300s 3B-NBD (msn 194) and 3B-NBE (msn 268);
• A330-200 3B-NBL (msn 1057);
• A319-100s 3B-NBF (msn 1592) and 3B-NBH (msn 1936).

According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module:

• A340-300 3B-NBD is 22.79 years of age and as of March 31, 2020, had amassed 93,546 hours via 13,615 cycles. A340-300 3B-NBE is 21.28 years of age and, as of March 31, 2020, had amassed 89,519 hours via 13,019 cycles;
• A330-200 3B-NBL is 10.79 years of age, is powered by General Electric CF6-80E1A3s, and had amassed 43,846 hours via 8,471 cycles as of March 31, 2020;
• A319 3B-NBF is 18.83 years of age and amassed 43,750 hours via 16,402 cycles as of March 31, 2020. A319 3B-NBH is 17.38 years of age and amassed 40,910 hours via 14,734 cycles as of March 31, 2020.

Proposals are due by 1600L (1200Z) on August 11, 2020.

The dormant carrier, which is battling to stave off bankruptcy, also owns two A350-900s and a single ATR72-500.

Air Mauritius considering A320neo and B737 MAX products

Air Mauritius (MK, Mauritius) chief executive Somaskaran Appavou has told Air Transport World that the airline is planning to conclude a narrowbody replacement study by the end of this year with the B737 MAX and A320neo aircraft families currently under consideration.

The ch-aviation fleets database currently shows that Air Mauritius's narrowbody fleet consists of two owned A319-100s with an average age of 15.4 years. It uses its A319 fleet for regional services from its Mauritius hub to Antananarivo, Cape Town, Dar-es-Salaam, Durban King Shaka, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo and Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta.

Having just taken delivery of its first of six A350-900s and with two A330-900neo aircraft on order, Air Mauritius has already chosen to go with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for its widebody needs. Appavou also mentioned an interest in the A321neo LR as part of the current narrowbody study being undertaken.

A350 key to modernising Air Mauritius’ all Airbus long-haul fleet

Air Mauritius, the flag carrier of Mauritius has decided to expand and modernise its long-haul fleet with a Memorandum of Understanding for four A350-900 aircraft. The agreement was announced during the Farnborough International Airshow 2014. The airline has also announced that it is leasing two more A350-900s. The 6 A350 XWB will be operated on European, Asian and Australian routes.

Air Mauritius, voted the leading airline in the Indian Ocean at the World Travel Awards for the last last nine years and recently awarded a 4-STAR Skytrax rating, currently operates ten Airbus aircraft including two A330-200s and two A319s.

 “The A350 XWB combined with the A330 suits Air Mauritius’ entire long-range network and will be key to modernising our fleet while significantly reducing our operational costs and environmental footprint. It is the game-changer we were looking for,” said Andries Viljoen, Air Mauritius’ Chief Executive Officer. “These highly comfortable and fuel-efficient aircraft will fit nicely into our existing Airbus fleet, and our passengers will be able to enjoy seamless service and comfort levels throughout our entire product range.”
