Airbus has released the numbers over December 2022 and the total year. Last month, Airbus was able to note down sixteen aircraft orders, received 21 cancellations and delivered 98 aircraft.

In total, Airbus logged 1078 orders for new aircraft and 258 cancellations, leaving a total of 820 net orders. A total of 663 new aircraft were delivered to customers last year.

Etihad finally starts flying its A350-1000s

Etihad Airways has, on 31 March 2022, finally launched operations with the A350-1000, three years after taking delivery of its first one.

The first revenue flight was operated by A6-XWB (290), which flew to Paris-Charles de Gaulle and back to Abu Dhabi. The flight to Paris, however, was a one-off flight as Etihad will operate the type, initially, to Istanbul and Mumbai. Later, Cairo, Delhi and Jeddah will be added.

So far, Etihad has taken delivery of five A350-1000s, with fifteen remaining on order. It's, however, unclear if the airline will take delivery of all of them as they are still reshuffling its orders with Airbus. Etihad has also signed a LoI for seven A350Fs.

In the fleet, the A350-1000 is set to replace the B777-300ER, of which it operates twelve.

COVID Prompts Aeroflot To Delay Airbus A350 Deliveries

Aeroflot has shared today that it will delay taking delivery of 10 Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The flag carrier of Russia has made this decision after several of its aircraft were grounded due to the global health crisis.

A change of circumstances

According to AFP via Yahoo News, Aeroflot CEO Vitaly Saveliev told state news agency TASS that his company is postponing the delivery of the rest of the widebodies by likely a year or two. He concluded that at the moment, the firm has nowhere to fly the planes.

The airline was in high spirits in March when it received its first Airbus A350 XWB at a grand ceremony in Toulouse. This jet was named Tchaikovsky, after the famous Russian composer, and the company highlighted how the type would be a vessel to promote the country’s culture around the world.

The carrier was proud to state that it would have several more A350s, and they would fly to New York, Beijing, Delhi, Shanghai. They were also set to take on new and future routes such as Osaka and Singapore. However, it looks like there will be a delay before such feats occur.

The A350 specializes in long-haul services. However, amid the current climate, Aeroflot’s initial unit, registration VQ-BFY, has been performing a more humble operation. It has been flying daily on a route between the Russian cities of Moscow and Sochi. This is a trip that only takes approximately two hours to complete each way.

Domestic focus

The coronavirus pandemic continues to take its toll on the aviation industry. For the first six months of 2020, Aeroflot had been hit with a 54 percent drop in passengers. This figure also includes activity for its subsidiary, Pobeda.

One for the future

Altogether it’s not surprising that Aeroflot would want to wait before getting its hands on more A350s amid the current conditions. Several other carriers are in the same boat and are having similar discussions with manufacturers. Regardless, when the time is right, the widebody will serve the airline well across the globe.

Sichuan Airlines orders 10 Airbus A350 XWBs

Airbus confirmed at the Farnborough Airshow a deal agreed earlier in 2018 that Sichuan Airlines, based in the Southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu, has selected the A350 XWB to become the latest aircraft in its fleet.

Sichuan Airlines operates the largest all-Airbus fleet in China with over 130 Airbus family aircraft. In addition to its domestic network, Sichuan Airlines now operates on over 30 international routes, including routes from Chengdu to Moscow, Sidney, Dubai and Vancouver. The airline also leased four A350 XWBs, with the first one to be delivered by this year.

The newly introduced A350 XWBs, which is a strong supplement to Sichuan Airlines’ Airbus fleet, will be deployed on its non-stop long haul international routes, such as Chengdu to North America and Europe.

The A350 XWB is an all new family of widebody long-haul airliners shaping the future of air travel. Paris: Turkish Airlines has begun talks with Airbus to buy up to 40 A350 jetliners worth $12.4 billion at list prices, hours after outlining a similar deal with rival planemaker Boeing, people familiar with the airline said on Friday.

The carrier's first significant moves on expansion since last year's failed Turkish coup appear designed to signal a rebound coinciding with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to the United Nations, though no deals have yet been finalised.

In New York, where Erdogan this week attended the UN General Assembly, Boeing said on Thursday Turkish Airlines (THY) intended to buy 40 of its 787-9 Dreamliner jets worth $11 billion at list prices.

Boeing and the Turkish government also announced a joint initiative to support the Turkish aerospace industry.

"During the talks to finalise the order, we are strictly evaluating the $1 billion worth business volume for the local Turkish supplier industry," Turkish Airlines Chairman Ilker Aycı said in a statement on Friday.

Hours after the Boeing announcement, attention switched behind the scenes to Boeing's arch-rival Airbus as Turkish Airlines also sought prices from the European planemaker for up to 40 wide-body A350-900 jets, the people said.

It was not immediately clear whether this might lead to a separate order or clash with the 787 talks or even be just a case of THY checking Boeing's prices against Airbus's. But THY typically maintains a balanced fleet from the rival planemakers and analysts said the diplomatic setting and wider industrial agreement suggested the Boeing deal was likely to go ahead.

That deal came as US President Donald Trump praised Erdogan as a friend, despite tensions between the two countries over Turkish security officials involved in street fighting with protesters during a visit to Washington in May.

But the timing and nature of the US deal were unexpected. THY had previously expressed interest in the larger 777X.

Both Boeing and Airbus declined to comment on discussions with the airline. THY was not available for comment.

THY is growing quickly to compete with Gulf carriers but diplomats say it also has a history of making political points with airplane deals as well as using new routes to project Turkey's 'soft power' abroad. In the past, it has tied abortive talks to buy the Airbus A380 to European Union accession talks, according to industry sources and cables released by Wikileaks.

Industry sources said the latest separate discussions with Boeing and Airbus appeared to have been accelerated to fit this week's diplomatic schedule, with no visible tendering process.

"There are politics involved," one industry source said.

Aircraft negotiations often take months, even years, and are usually kept under wraps until there is at least a preliminary agreement. Follow-up talks with each side may take some time.

"Turkish Airlines intends to buy 40 787-9 aircraft. However, it has not actually ordered the aircraft, so we’re not sure that this is really an announcement at all," Robert Stallard, aerospace analyst at Vertical Research Partners, said in a note.

THY's passenger numbers were hit by last year's coup attempt, as well as security concerns and tensions with Russia, prompting the airline to postpone Airbus and Boeing deliveries. Passenger numbers grew 6.1 percent between January and August.

Asiana Airlines takes delivery of its first A350 XWB

24th April 2017, Toulouse - Asiana Airlines of South Korea has taken delivery of its first A350-900, becoming the 12th airline to operate the world’s newest and most efficient twin engine widebody airliner.

Asiana’s A350-900 is configured with a three class layout with a total of 311 seats, comprising 28 in Business Smartium, convertible to fully flat beds, 36 in Economy Smartium and 247 in the main cabin.

Altogether Asiana has ordered 30 A350s and will initially operate the aircraft on flights within Asia. From the third quarter of 2017, the carrier will deploy the aircraft on premier long haul routes to Europe and the US, beginning with services from Seoul to London and San Francisco.

Air Caraïbes takes delivery of its first A350-900, opening up a new era in air transport to the French Caribbean

With this latest delivery, Air Caraïbes becomes the first French airline to operate the A350 XWB. The aircraft, leased from AerCap, was delivered during a ceremony held at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse on 28 February. It will take off at 14:00 heading for Paris Orly Sud before embarking on its first commercial flight to Pointe-à-Pitre and Fort-de-France on 2 March. 

This A350-900 can accommodate 389 passengers in a three-class configuration, (18 in Business, 45 in Premium Economy and 326 in Economy). The exceptional comfort and quietness of the ‘Airspace by Airbus’ cabin, combined with its new lighting system – much appreciated by passengers for the way it reduces the effects of jet lag – strengthen the sense of wellbeing and relaxation on long-haul flights.

Air Caraïbes plans to operate its A350 XWB alongside the A330s it already has in service on its Paris French Caribbean routes.

Today [Tuesday 17th January, 2017] saw the inaugural transatlantic flight of Singapore Airline’s first UK Airbus 350-900 aircraft. The aircraft will fly on Singapore Airline’s Manchester routes, serving both Singapore and Houston and will be the first commercial A350 flight from Manchester Airport. It makes Manchester the only non-London airport in the UK to have an A350 in operation.

This landmark flight demonstrates the investment and confidence that Singapore Airlines has placed in the North West economy, following the launch announcement of transatlantic flights from Manchester to Houston and non-stop flights from Manchester to Singapore, late last year.

The A350 aircraft, which is the world’s most modern and efficient, takes aviation to new heights for passenger experience, operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This is also a regional, North West success story, with the Singapore Airlines A350 wings being assembled at Airbus’ £400 million factory in Broughton, Chester. The factory, which covers a total area of 46,000 square metres, employs more than 6,000 people mostly in manufacturing and the remainder in engineering and support functions.

The production of Singapore Airlines A350s has also had a positive effect on the wider UK economy as it plays a major part in the production of each A350 aircraft. The programme supports more than 6,000 high skill, high value jobs in the UK - 1,000 of which working directly with Airbus and a further 5,000 in the production supply chain.

The A350 forms a key part of Singapore Airline’s new fleet, enabling the Airline to offer customers an enhanced on-board experience, to introduce new destinations and expand its current connectivity. It also welcomes the Airline’s new Premium Economy Class cabin, offering a wider seat with more legroom, 13-inch touch screen monitors and the latest Business Class design to those flying from Manchester.

THAI’s first A350 XWB ready to start ground and flight tests

The first A350 XWB for Thai Airways International (THAI) has rolled out from cabin furnishing & engine installation at the Airbus Toulouse Final Assembly Line. The aircraft is now ready to proceed to further ground and flight testing. This first A350-900 for THAI is scheduled for delivery in Q3 2016.

Ethiopian Airlines takes delivery of its first A350 XWB

Ethiopian Airlines has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-900 aircraft, opening a new chapter for the East African carrier, which also becomes the first African A350 XWB operator.  The airline’s first aircraft, on lease from AerCap, arrived in Addis Ababa on June 29th, 2016.

A350-900s with a two class layout with a total of 343 seats comprising 30 in Business Class and 313 in Economy Class. Cathay Pacific Airways becomes new operator of the A350 XWB

Cathay Pacific Airways has become the sixth airline to operate the world’s latest and most efficient twin engine widebody airliner. The airline’s first aircraft featuring the carrier’s new livery has arrived at its home base in Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific has configured its A350-900 with a premium three class layout with a total of 280 seats, comprising 38 in Business Class, convertible to fully lie-flat beds, 28 in Premium Economy and 214 in the main cabin. After an initial period flying on regional routes, Cathay Pacific’s A350-900 will begin long haul operations later this year.

Altogether Cathay Pacific 48 A350 XWB on order, including 22 A350-900s and 26 of the larger A350-1000s.

Singapore Airlines becomes new operator of the A350 XWB

Singapore Airlines has taken delivery of its first A350 XWB in Toulouse, France, becoming the fifth operator of the all-new widebody airliner. With its unrivalled passenger flying experience and operational efficiency, the A350 XWB will form the backbone of Singapore Airlines’ future mid-size widebody fleet.

Singapore Airlines’ aircraft is configured in a premium three class layout with 253 seats, comprising 42 Business Class, 24 Premium Economy and 187 Economy. After an initial period flying on regional services to Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta the aircraft will be deployed on long haul flights from May, starting with Amsterdam and then Dusseldorf.

Altogether the airline has ordered 67 A350-900s which will be operated on long range flights, as well as on selected regional services. Seven of the aircraft will be delivered with an ultra-long range capability for flights of up to 19 hours, allowing the carrier to resume non-stop flights to the US. The A350 XWB will join an existing Airbus fleet at Singapore Airlines that currently comprises 19 double decker A380s and 29 A330-300s, making the carrier an operator of the complete Airbus Widebody Family.
