Airbus welcomes Transaero as a new operator

The A321 offers the best in class fuel efficiency and low operating costs

Transaero Airlines, Russia’s second largest airline, took delivery of its first Airbus A321 aircraft. The festive ceremony was held in Vnukovo international airport (Moscow) on the arrival of the A321 welcomed by the airline management, representatives of Vnukovo, Airbus and members of the media. The aircraft is delivered as part of Transaero’s contract with ICBC Leasing Company.

‪Transaero’s A321, powered by CFM56 engines, features a two-class cabin layout seating 184 passengers (eight in business  and 176 in economy ). The spacious configuration offers unbeatable passenger comfort in both classes. The airline plans  to operate its A321 fleet on premium international routes. 

Olga Pleshakova, CEO Transaero Airlines said, “We are very pleased with this important step made towards further development of our cooperation with Airbus. THE MONTH IN REVIEW: JUNE 2015

Airbus’ 135 bookings during June involved A320 single-aisle Family jetliners in the current and new engine option (CEO and NEO) versions, along with widebody A330ceo and A350 aircraft; while the month’s listed 61 deliveries spanned its current production range from the A320 Family to the A330, A350 and A380.

One of the largest orders was Dubai-based International Airfinance Corporation’s acquisition of 30 A320ceo aircraft and 20 A330-300s for lease to Saudi Arabian Airlines. As a result, Saudi Arabian Airlines will become the world’s first carrier to operate the new A330-300 Regional variant, which is specially designed for regional and domestic operations and offers Airbus’ solution for markets with large populations and fast growing, concentrated air traffic flows.

Another major agreement in June was the 45 A320neo and 15 A321neo jetliners ordered by GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), the aviation leasing and financing arm of General Electric.  This brings A320 Family aircraft ordered by GECAS to a total of 465.

The other single-aisle transactions during June were nine A320neos for Lion Air; six A321ceos for VietJet Air, further increasing this fast-growing Vietnamese carrier’s all-Airbus fleet; two A320ceos and one A321ceo for Air Lease Corporation; three A320ceos for Japanese low cost carrier Peach Aviation; and one A320ceo for Atlantic Airways.

With this new A320 Family business, Airbus surpassed the total of 11,800 overall orders for its single-aisle jetliners.

Widebody orders during the month were Air Lease Corporation’s booking for one A350-900 and an A330-200, bringing the Los Angeles based aircraft leasing company’s portfolio of Airbus aircraft to total of 262; along with an A330-200 for Airbus Defence and Space, which will be outfitted by the Airbus Group business unit as a Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) for the French military.

The June bookings brought Airbus’ net orders through the first six months of 2015 to 348 aircraft, taking cancellations into account.

Airbus’ delivery of 42 A320 Family jetliners in June brought overall Airbus single-aisle aircraft deliveries to more than 6,600, while the total A330s provided to customers surpassed the 1,200 mark.

Included in the month’s activity were deliveries of 19 widebody aircraft, among which were: three A380s; two A350s (one to AerCap for Vietnam Airlines, and the other to A350 launch operator Qatar Airways); the second A330-300 to Delta Air Lines with an increased 242 tonne maximum take-off weight; the initial A330 for Tunisair (an A330-200); and the first A330 to Kuwait Airways (in the A330-200 version).

During the first six months of 2015, Airbus delivered a total of 304 aircraft to 67 customers worldwide.

First A350 XWB for Cathay Pacific is taking shape

Assembly of the first A350-900 for Cathay Pacific Airways is progressing well at Airbus’ A350 XWB Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Toulouse, France. Following the fuselage section joining phase, the wings, the horizontal and vertical tailplane as well as tail cone have been joined to the fuselage. Following this, the aircraft will move to the next assembly station for structural completion, ground testing and start of cabin installation. 

The aircraft is scheduled for delivery early next year and will be the first of 48 A350 XWBs acquired by Cathay Pacific. Cathay Pacific’s A350 XWB fleet will include 22 A350-900s and 26 of the larger A350-1000s, for operation on long- and medium-haul services. 

The A350 XWB is Airbus’ all-new mid-size long range aircraft and the latest member of the manufacturer’s leading widebody family. It is the world’s most modern and efficient aircraft in its size category and is setting new standards in terms of inflight experience, operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness for airlines. 

The A350 XWB has been especially successful in the Asia-Pacific region, where 11 major airlines have ordered a total of 244 aircraft out of the 781 total ordered so far. Cathay Pacific represents one fifth of the A350 XWB total orders from Asia-Pacific.

Vietnam Airlines becomes world’s second operator of the A350 XWB

New levels of comfort and efficiency for carrier’s long haul services

Vietnam Airlines has become the second airline in the world to operate the all-new A350 XWB, following a special ceremony in Toulouse today. The A350-900 aircraft was delivered to global lessor AerCap on lease to the airline for operation on long haul routes and is scheduled to arrive in Hanoi tomorrow. Altogether, Vietnam Airlines is set to acquire 14 A350 XWBs, including 10 ordered from Airbus and four from lessors.

Vietnam Airlines will inaugurate commercial service with the A350 XWB later this week, initially on the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh domestic sector and then on non-stop flights from Hanoi to Paris. The aircraft is configured with a premium three class layout, with 29 seats that convert to full flat beds in Business Class, 45 seats in Premium Economy and 231 in Economy. In addition to more personal space in all classes, the aircraft features the latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems throughout.

Vietnam Airlines’ new A350 XWB will join an existing Airbus fleet of 59 aircraft flying with the carrier, comprising 49 A321s and 10 A330s.

AerCap is Airbus’ largest customer, and has ordered a cumulative total of 945 Airbus aircraft over the years. These include firm orders for a total of 20 A350 XWBs.

The A350 XWB features the latest aerodynamic design, carbon fibre fuselage and wings, plus new fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. Together, these latest technologies translate into unrivalled levels of operational efficiency, with a 25 per cent reduction in fuel burn and emissions, and significantly lower maintenance costs.

To date, Airbus has recorded a total of 781 firm orders for the A350 XWB from 40 customers worldwide, already making it one of the most successful widebody aircraft ever. The aircraft handed over today is the fifth A350 XWB to be delivered, following the type’s entry into commercial service with its first operator earlier this year.
