Nigeria's Ibom Air launches A220 operations

Ibom Air (QI, Uyo) has begun operating revenue flights with its first A220-300 nearly half a year after the aircraft was delivered to Nigeria.

5N-CDA (msn 55250) debuted on the Uyo-Lagos route on April 29. Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows it has since been flying mainly between Nigeria's two main airports, Lagos and Abuja. The aircraft was delivered to Ibom Air directly from the manufacturer in early December 2023 and then stored at Uyo. It was activated for proving flights in late February and early March and then parked again.

Ibom Air has nine more A220-300s on firm order from Airbus Canada. The airline's fleet also comprises five CRJ900s.

Meanwhile, an E170 formerly operated by Tunisia's Jasmin Airways, 5N-CDP (msn 17000175), was ferried from Tunis to Lagos on April 6, already with the Nigerian registration. Local aviation sources indicate that the aircraft will be the second unit of the type for start-up Binani Air, joining also ex-Jasmin Airways sistership 5N-CCI (msn 17000169).
