Airbus Updates No.2650

Air France to Retire its Remaining Two Airbus A340-300s

The Airbus A340s of the French operator had all been lined up due to their high operating costs.

"We've pushed these airplanes pretty much to their limit. So the retirement of the remaining Airbus A380s at Air France is also under study,"

Air France CEO Ben Smith said.

"We will reassess new fleet orders in view of the new market reality as well as the group's future investment capacity. This will all be integrated into our restructuring plan,"

Smith added.
Air France has also deferred the delivery of three Airbus A350-900s from 2020 to 2021 as a part of its cost-cutting measures implemented in the wake of the pandemic.

Smith suggested that the fleet adjustments announced so far would not be the end of cuts. In 2021, the airline plans to operate 20% of capacity less than in 2019 with further flexibility.
