Aegean Airlines (A3, Athens Int'l) officially took delivery of its first A320-200neo, at the same time unveiling a refreshed brand.
SX-NEO (msn 9400) was ferried from Toulouse Blagnac to Athens Int'l on December 20, 2019. A further two units of the type, SX-NEA (msn 9497) and SX-NEB (msn 9514), were also delivered to Greece. A further three aircraft are scheduled to deliver by July 2020.
Aegean Airlines plans to start revenue operations with the type on February 14, 2020, with flights to Munich. In the first stage, the airline will also use the A320neo to fly to London Heathrow and Zurich, the ch-aviation schedules module shows.
"The next 24 months will be extremely creative for us, since we will design our renewed product offering. For all of us, the new aircraft represents primarily a platform that enables our people to work consistently towards creating a better travelling experience for our passengers", Chief Executive Dimitris Gerogiannis said.
The privately-owned Greek carrier has a total of 46 firm orders for A320neo Family aircraft and a further 12 options. Out of the firm orders, 30 (twenty A320neo and ten A321-200neo) are directly from Airbus while the remainder will come from lessors. All Aegean's A320neo Family aircraft will be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1000 engines.
Aegean Airlines also operates one A319-100, thirty-seven A320-200s, and eleven A321-200s, the ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows. Initially, the A320neo will be used for growth rather than replacement of older aircraft.
The carrier's regional subsidiary Olympic Air (OA, Athens Int'l) operates two ATR42-600s, two Dash 8-100s, and eight Dash 8-400s.
