Turkish Airlines A330-300 diverts to Johannesburg due to an unspecified problem
Johannesburg, South Africa - On Jan 2, a Turkish Airlines flight from Cape Town to Istanbul reportedly diverted to Johannesburg International Airport after takeoff due to an undefined problem.
The flight data showed that the Turkish Airlines' Airbus A330 jet had been in a holding pattern for some time after takeoff.
After our A330-type airplane reached the proper weight for landing, a safe landing was achieved. Our plane’s technical condition is being investigated
Turkish Airlines said in a statement.
South African news portal eNCA reported on Jan 3rd that the plane’s landing gear didn’t retract after takeoff.
FlighAware.com data shows that the Turkish Airbus A330-300 (Flight TK45) was circling over the sea in the west of Cape Town at 20,000 feet before diverting to Johannesburg International.
Johannesburg is larger than Cape Town Airport and the headquarter of the South African Airways technical branch, SAA Technical (SOC) Ltd.
