Brussels Airlines presents new Belgian icon
On 26 March 2025, Brussels Airlines unveiled a new Belgian-icon aircraft to its fleet. This time, the airline has given Airbus A320 OO-SNM (2003) a special livery, honoring the Atomium in Brussels. It flew commercially for the first time from Brussels to Prague on 27 March 2025.
The idea of the Belgian icons is to "introduce the best of Belgium to the world. The Belgian icons are known all over the world and make flying even more fun".
Currently, there are four Airbus A320s wearing a special Belgian-icon livery:
In the past there were four more Belgian icon-liveries, which were applied on:
Of these four, only OO-SNE is currently still flying with the airline, the other three have left the fleet.

Belavia (B2, Minsk National) is in advanced negotiations to add three A330-200s currently stored at Minsk National under Gambian registrations assigned to "Magic Air", a company which previously intermediated in the delivery of an A320-200 to sanctioned Cham Wings Airlines (SAW, Damascus), Reuters reported.
The Belarusian flag carrier tentatively plans to induct the aircraft into service during the Summer 2025 season.
C5-TAB (msn 525), C5-TAC (msn 509), and C5-TAD (msn 491) were ferried from their previous storage locations at Muscat and Cairo International to Minsk National on August 19, 2024. They reportedly arrived in a decrepit state, requiring extensive maintenance. Neither has been active since the ferry flight to Minsk.
The three aircraft are of 2002-2003 vintage and were first delivered to Emirates. Onur Air took them over in 2017-2018 and was the aircraft's last commercial operator. They were subsequently re-registered in the Cayman Islands as VP-CBE, VP-CBD, and VP-CBB, respectively.
In 2024, Magic Air ferried A320 C5-TAA (msn 2600) from Istanbul Atatürk via Minsk to Damascus. The aircraft subsequently entered the fleet of Cham Wings as YK-BAC and continues to serve with the Syrian airline.
Belavia did not respond to ch-aviation's request for comment.
If confirmed, the transaction would represent the single largest addition of new aircraft to either the Russian- or Belarusian-registered fleet since the imposition of Western sanctions on the countries in early 2022.
Belavia's current fleet comprises two B737-300s, one B737-8, five B737-800s, one E175, and four E195s. The airline does not have any widebodies in its passenger fleet but operates one B767-300ER (alongside one B737-800(BBJ) and one Challenger 850) for the government.
Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) expects to add its first A350-1000 in late 2026 and deferred the launch of its Project Sunrise ultra-long-haul flights until early 2027, as Airbus continues to delay deliveries of the modified widebody.
Speaking to reporters in Toulouse, Qantas chief executive Vanessa Hudson said the first of 24 modified A350-1000s would be delivered at the end of 2026, yet another delay in the project. Moreover, to operate daily ultra-long-haul flights from Sydney to New York JFK and Sydney to London Heathrow, the carrier needs three -1000s in its fleet, and this is not expected to take place until the spring of 2027 at least.
"Then, as the other aircraft come on, we'll be able to fill out the network," Hudson said without specifying other routes.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) required Airbus to modify its fuel tanks, which delayed the variant's certification until June 2024 and Qantas's Project Sunrise overall.
The Australian carrier has orders for twenty-four A220-300s, forty-three A320-200Ns, seven A321-200NX, seventeen A321-200NX(LR)s, forty A321-200NY(XLR)s (with the first deliveries of the type expected in 2025), and twenty-four A350-1000s from Airbus. It also expects to add eight B787-10s and four B787-9s from Boeing. The new aircraft are set to be distributed between Qantas and its subsidiaries Jetstar Airways and Cobham Aviation Services Australia - Airline Services.
Aero Dili (8G, Dili) has introduced an A319-100 into revenue passenger service, operating a flight between Dili and Oecussi on March 24. A special ceremony was held at Dili airport commemorating the start of the A319 operations.
"This milestone represents our commitment to advancing air connectivity, enhancing passenger experience, and supporting the growth of Timor-Leste’s aviation sector," the airline said on its Facebook page.
4W-AAO (msn 2825) is Aero Dili's only A319 and was delivered to the airline in January 2025. The 18.74-year-old aircraft was previously operated by China Eastern Airlines and is currently dry-leased from AFG Aviation Ireland, an SPV for Aircraft Finance Germany. The twinjet is powered by CFM International CFM56 engines.
Aero Dili is the only scheduled passenger airline based in Timor-Leste. It operates flights from Dili to Denpasar, Oecussi, Singapore Changi, and recently introduced a new service to Xiamen, its first route to China. Aero Dili also plans to start flights to Darwin and Melbourne Airport.
Apart from 4W-AAO, the carrier operates one A320-200, ch-aviation fleets data shows.
Transport Canada (TGO, Ottawa International) has issued two Airworthiness Directives (ADs) for A220-100s and A220-300s, ordering an inspection and service of their overhead compartments and titanium fasteners.
During rework at the final assembly line, Airbus Canada discovered that the fasteners had been incorrectly installed at the outer wing box. Such a condition could "result in a reduction in joint strength and the potential damage to and loss of principal/fatigue critical structure," Transport Canada noted.
The agency warns that there is a risk of a fuel leak if the fastener fails and falls free from the joint. The Airworthiness Directive requires airlines to apply corrective measures within 500 flight cycles from the effective date of the AD (March 10, 2025) or before accumulating 10,000 flight cycles.
Transport Canada issued another AD for two aircraft types regarding issues with the overhead compartments in the cabin. The authority noted that some of the tie rods supporting them "did not have enough thread engagement of the turnbuckle into the tie rod."
It added: "The affected tie rods support the overhead stowage compartments during an emergency landing, and if they become disengaged the overhead stowage compartments have the potential of impacting occupants of the passenger cabin."
The Airworthiness Directive, effective March 17, mandates compartment inspection. If deficiencies are found, airlines are required to adjust the tie rod engagement. Companies are to inspect and fix the issue within 48 months of the effective date of this AD.
Aircraft in the fleets of airBaltic, Delta Air Lines, Swiss, Korean Air, Air Tanzania, Breeze Airways, Cyprus Airways, EgyptAir, Air Canada, Ibom Air, JetBlue Airways, Air Austral, Air France, Iraqi Airways, and ITA Airways are affected by the new ADs.
