easyJet to lease A320s from SmartLynx for Tegel ops in 1Q18
easyJet (U2, London Luton) will wet-lease a total of six A320-200s from Baltic ACMI/charter specialist SmartLynx Airlines (6Y, Riga) for a period of three months running from January 7 through to March 31, 2018.
According to a SmartLynx press release, the aircraft will be deployed to the budget carrier's upcoming Berlin Tegel base.
Among the Latvian-registered aircraft to be deployed under the contract include YL-LCT (msn 2233), YL-LCU (msn 1762); YL-LCS (msn 566) and YL-LCN (msn 662) while those registered in Estonia at SmartLynx Airlines Estonia (MYX, Tallinn Lennart Meri) include ES-SAO (msn 936) and ES-SAQ (msn 984).
Additional wet-leased capacity is expected to be sourced from Condor (DE, Frankfurt Int'l).
easyJet will use the leased aircraft as an interim measure while it inducts up to twenty-five A320 Family aircraft into its fleet for use at the German capital airfield. The aircraft are all on lease and were formerly in service with the now bankrupt Air Berlin (AB, Berlin Tegel).
