Airbus Updates No.60/11

Airbus cancelled Flyington's order after non-PDP payment
Airbus stresses that it, rather than the airline, cancelled Flyington Freighters' order for 12 A330-200Fs following "non-payment of pre-delivery payments".

An Airbus spokesman adds: "Every deal is important to us and demand for A330s has never been higher. However, when a customer doesn't meet its obligations despite attempts to work with them, Airbus must protect its production process and assign the delivery slots to other customers.

"This is standard order book management."

The Indian start-up carrier had been the first cargo operator to sign up to the new type when it ordered six in 2007, before doubling its commitment later the same year.

The cancellation leaves Airbus with orders for 54 of the type on its books, of which five have been delivered to Etihad Airways, Hong Kong Airlines and Turkish Airlines.

Airbus to increase A330 production rate to ten a month

Unprecedented demand for Airbus’ best-selling long range aircraft family

3Airbus has decided to raise the production rate for its A330 Family to ten aircraft a month from the second quarter of 2013.

Currently Airbus turns out eight A330 Family aircraft each month. This monthly rate will increase to nine in early 2012, before reaching rate ten in the second quarter of 2013.

“We are increasing the production rate for the A330 Family due to the strong market demand for the aircraft,” said Tom Williams, Airbus’ Executive Vice President Programmes. “In the long-range, mid-size category, the A330 is the right aircraft for airlines worldwide”.

The A330 is not only a bestseller as a passenger airliner but also as a Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft, as a VIP aircraft and also as a freighter.

The A330 MRTT achieved civil and military certification in 2010. Currently five are flying with a further four undergoing conversion. Delivery of the first two aircraft to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) is in the final stages. It is planned to deliver five A330 MRTTs to three customers in the course of this year.

2010 has also seen five deliveries of the brand new freighter variant to three customers as a first step towards satisfying a market of some 400 new build mid-size freighters over the next 20 years.

The reliable and efficient A330 is one of the most widely used widebody aircraft in service today, with one taking off each minute every day. To date, Airbus has won over 1,100 orders for the different models of the aircraft. Some 750 A330s have already been delivered and the aircraft is currently flying with 90 operators worldwide in 50 countries

No Delays To Emirates A380 Deliveries

Airbus is on track to deliver six to seven A380 planes this year to Emirates, its biggest customer for the superjumbos, an Airbus Middle East executive said on Wednesday.
Dubai government-owned Emirates, among the fastest-growing carriers in the world, plans to increase its fleet to eventually include 120 Airbus A380s.
Fouad Attar, deputy president and head of commercial at Airbus Middle East, said the aircraft maker would deliver "six to seven" A380 jets to Emirates this year.
Asked whether there were any delays in the deliveries to Emirates, he said: "No, they're all on time. There's no delay."
Attar also said Airbus expected 50 to 100 orders from the Middle East and North Africa region and the company would focus on Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and elsewhere in North Africa.
"There's lot of potential in North Africa," Attar told reporters on the sidelines of an aviation event, adding the political turmoil in Egypt could affect the number of orders.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said on Tuesday he would surrender power in September, angering protesters who want an immediate end to his 30-year-rule.
