AIRBUS A319 TO STAY IN PRODUCTION DESPITE NO SALES IN FIVE YEARS
Airbus has confirmed its intention to retain the A319 for the foreseeable future despite the A220 series, in most respects equalling or outclassing it.
Airbus has just 66 unfulfilled orders for the CEO and NEO derivatives that will be filled in 2019-20. It hasn’t received an A319 order in five years.
The situation is made worse by growing availability of A319’s in the used market as airlines easyJet standardise around the A320 and A321.
The A220 series carries similar passenger numbers, around 160.
Airbus said in certain circumstances the A319 has advantages over the A220, but declined to emphasise what they were.
