Airbus began 2013 with bookings for two of its newest products: the A320neo (new engine option) Family and the A350 XWB, while delivering a total of 35 aircraft to customers around the world.
The largest order was from U.S.-based American Airlines for 130 A321neo jetliner variants, adding another operator to the growing list of A320neo Family customers – and making this the biggest single A321neo acquisition in Airbus’ order book.
Also in January, CIT Group Inc. placed a firm order for 10 A350-900s, marking a repeat booking for the A350 XWB from this global aircraft lessor, which also is headquartered in the U.S.
Deliveries during the first month of 2013 were paced by the A320ceo (current engine option) product line, with 30 of these single-aisle jetliners provided to customers – composed of 24 A320s, four A321s and two A319s. In addition, five widebody A330s were delivered (three in the A330-300 configuration and two A330-200s).
With the new business activity and the delivery activities achieved in January, Airbus completed the month with another record high industry backlog of 4,768 aircraft.
