Iran Air and Airbus seal historic aircraft order

Agreement covers 100 aircraft

22 DECEMBER 2016 PRESS RELEASE
Iran Air and Airbus have signed a firm contract for 100 aircraft, building on an initial commitment signed in January 2016 in Paris. The agreement signed by Farhad Parvaresh, Iran Air Chairman and CEO and Fabrice Bregier, Airbus President and CEO, covers 46 A320 Family, 38 A330 Family and 16 A350 XWB aircraft. Deliveries will begin in early 2017.
“I am delighted that we have reached an agreement to go to the next decisive phase and start taking delivery of new aircraft. I am gratified that this new round of cooperation with Airbus has come to fruition and brought us closer with more practical steps to follow for Iran Air’s fleet renewal. Iran Air considers this agreement an important step towards a stronger international presence in civil aviation. We hope this success signals to the world that the commercial goals of Iran and its counterparts are better achieved with international cooperation and collaboration”, said Mr Farhad Parvaresh, Iran Air Chairman and CEO.
“This is a landmark agreement not only because it paves the way for Iran Air’s fleet renewal”, said Fabrice Bregier, Airbus President and CEO. “Our overall accord includes pilot training, airport operations and air traffic management so this agreement is also a significant first step in the overall modernisation of Iran’s commercial aviation sector”.
The agreement is subject to US government Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) export licences which were granted in September and November 2016. These licenses are required for products containing 10 per cent or more US technology content. Airbus coordinated closely with regulators in the EU, US and elsewhere to ensure understanding and full compliance with the JCPOA. Airbus will continue to act in full compliance with the conditions of the OFAC licences.
The agreement follows the implementation of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action), its associated rules and guidance and included new commercial aircraft orders as well as a comprehensive civil aviation package. The package includes pilot and maintenance training, supporting the development of air navigation services (ATM), airport and aircraft operations and regulatory harmonization.
As the world’s leading aircraft manufacturer, Airbus offers the most comprehensive range of passenger airliners from 100 to more than 600 seats. Airbus has design and manufacturing facilities in France, Germany, the UK, and Spain, and subsidiaries in the US, China, India, Japan and in the Middle East. In addition, Airbus provides the highest standard of customer support and training through an expanding international network.

Airbus Updates No.1570

South African Airways takes delivery of its first A330-300 aircraft

South African Airways (SAA), has taken delivery of its first of five new leased A330-300 widebody jetliners, becoming Airbus’s first Southern African operator of the aircraft type.

2 DECEMBER 2016 PRESS RELEASE
SAA’s A330-300 are configured in a comfortable two-class cabin layout with 46 seats in Business Class and 203 in Economy class seats.  The aircraft will introduce new levels of onboard comfort, including connectivity for SAA’s passengers and enhanced operating efficiencies for the airline.
SAA has selected the latest 242-tonne Maximum Take-Off Weight variant of the A330-300, which incorporates a new aerodynamic packages enabling the aircraft to cover distances of up to 6,350 nautical miles (11,750km) in flights up to 15 hours in duration.  This payload/range capability allows the aircraft to be deployed across SAA’s long-haul, intra-Africa and peak domestic routes.
The A330-300s share the same cockpit configuration, operating philosophy and procedures with SAA’s existing fleet of Airbus widebody jetliners.  This high degree of commonality across the fleet is fundamental to achieving low operating, maintenance and training costs.
The A330 Family, which spans 250 to 300 seats, has attracted over 1,630 orders, with over 1,300 aircraft delivered to more than 100 operators worldwide, including SAA.  The A330 is one of the world’s most efficient aircraft with best-in-class operating economics and average on-time dispatch reliability above 99 percent.

THE MONTH IN REVIEW: NOVEMBER 2016

Airbus booked orders for 15 of its single-aisle and widebody jetliners during November while making 61 deliveries involving all members of its current-production product line: the A320 Family, A330, A350 XWB and A380.
The new business for Airbus’ single-aisle A320 Family was composed of three A320ceo and five A321ceo (Current Engine Option) aircraft for an unidentified customer; five A320ceo versions for Air Arabia – the Sharjah, United Arab Emirates-based low-cost carrier that is an all-A320 operator; and one ACJ320neo (New Engine Option) corporate jet for a private customer.
November’s widebody order was from Hawaiian Airlines, which acquired another A330-200 for this U.S. operator’s already-large A330 fleet.
Taking the month’s bookings into account, Airbus’ annual net orders for 2016 reached 410 at the end-November.
Deliveries during the month were led by the 48 A320 Family airliners provided to customers and operators worldwide. Of this total, 11 were A320neo versions, including the first NEO for Kazakhstan flag carrier Air Astana – leased from Air Lease Corporation.
Widebody deliveries in November were composed of seven A330s, two A380s (provided to Emirates) and four A350 XWBs (one each received by Qatar Airways, LATAM, Cathay Pacific Airways and China Airlines).
With the month’s A350 XWB handover activity, the total year-to-date deliveries for these new jetliners in 2016 reached 34 aircraft as of 30 November, which were provided to nine operators.
Based on the month’s order and delivery activity, Airbus’ overall backlog at the end of November stood at 6,664 aircraft, composed of 5,460 A320 Family jetliners, 324 A330s, 761 A350 XWBs and 119 A380s.
