Supply chain issues delay Airbus A350F EIS to 2027

Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) may experience delays in the introduction of the A350F due to supply chain problems, Reuters reported citing industry sources. The rollout of new freighter aircraft could be delayed by up to a year from the current schedule, which assumes a 2026 entry into service.

The manufacturer has not publicly commented on possible issues in the introduction and production of the A350F. The manufacturer is expected to announce updates on the issue on February 20, 2025, when it publishes its annual results.

Airbus is struggling to increase the production rate of the A350 due to issues with Spirit AeroSystems, a major US supplier that has been experiencing issues with quality control. Industry sources have said that Spirit AeroSystems cannot deliver a sufficient number of fuselage parts for the A350F, which is the reason for the potential late rollout of the freighter.

The issues will also likely prevent Airbus from ramping up its current production rate of passenger A350s, which is six aircraft per month.

At least nine airlines have ordered the A350F, the ch-aviation fleets module shows. Since Airbus announced the A350F programme in 2021, it has received orders for 66 airframes. Etihad Airways and Starlux Airlines are the biggest customers of the type, each ordering ten aircraft. Future operators also include Air FranceCMA CGM Air CargoCathay PacificMartinair (Netherlands)Silk Way West AirlinesSingapore Airlines, and Turkish Airlines, while Air Lease Corporation has ordered seven aircraft and three were ordered by (an) undisclosed customer(s).

Air Greenland to take delivery of first A320neo by YE27

Air Greenland (GL, Nuuk) has signed a dry-lease agreement with Carlyle Aviation Partners for one A320-200N, the airline announced on its website. Delivery is expected in December 2026 with entry into passenger service planned for spring 2027.

The Greenlandic company intends to utilise the A320neo on the route between new Ilulissat airport, due to open by the end of 2026, and Copenhagen Kastrup, complementing the service of the carrier's bigger A330-800N.

"The delivery time for new Airbus aircraft is currently six to seven years, so we have chosen to lease the aircraft to be ready when the new international airport in Ilulissat opens and to gain financial flexibility as the route is still new," said Jacob Nitter Sørensen, chief executive of Air Greenland.

The lease agreement with Carlyle runs for six years, but the airline will have an option to extend it further into the future. The Nuuk-based carrier revealed that the cockpit of the A320neo will be crewed mostly by A330neo pilots thanks to the commonalities between the two aircraft types.

Air Greenland also plans to train some of its De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Dash 8 pilots for the A320neo operations. It further disclosed that maintenance on the new aircraft will be conducted in Copenhagen by SAS Scandinavian Airlines where its A330 is also being serviced.

Air Greenland currently operates ten aircraft, according to the ch-aviation fleets module. The bulk of its fleet consists of seven DHC-8-Q200s and it also has one DHC-8-200 and one Hawker 800XP(2). The Greenlandic airline recently added the A330neo to its fleet, replacing a legacy A330-200. During the summer of 2025, it will also wet-lease a B737-800 from Airseven. Air Greenland's domestic fleet includes H125, H155, and H225 Airbus Helicopters as well.

Qanot Sharq to lease five long-range A321neo

Qanot Sharq (HH, Tashkent International) has signed a dry-lease contract for five extended-range A321-200neo, including two A321-200NX(LR)s and three A321-200NY(XLR)s, from Air Lease Corporation.

The aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and 2027, and will come from the lessor's existing orderbook with Airbus. The lessor has unfilled orders for twenty-two A321-200NX(LR)s and thirty A321-200NY(XLR)s.

Qanot Sharq, Uzbekistan's second-largest airline, currently operates two A320-200s, two A321-200NX, and two A330-200s. All six aircraft are dry-leased from Air Lease Corporation. The carrier also wet-leases one more A330-200 from Southwind Airlines. The airline did not disclose any specific plans for the newly contracted extended-range A321neo.

Bahamasair eyes order for up to ten A220s

Bahamasair (UP, Nassau International) is looking to place an order for A220 aircraft to renew its fleet and replace its ageing B737-700s, chief executive Tracy Cooper said during the Routes Americas conference in Nassau, Bahamas.

“The Airbus A220 is the main aircraft we’re looking at right now, and we expect to make a decision on this sometime this year, 2025,” he said, as quoted by the Bahamas’ Eye Witness News. “We expect that these aircraft could provide 13-15% improvements in operational costs.”

Last year, Cooper told ch-aviation that both the A220 and Boeing’s B737 MAX were the main candidates for the carrier. “The islands of the Bahamas are growing, demand is growing. There are times when we cannot fulfil those demands,” he said at the time. “We’re looking at how we could renew the jet fleet into something that is a bit more modern and will bring more efficiency.”

The ch-aviation fleets module shows Bahamasair’s fleet comprises nine aircraft, three ATR42-600s, two ATR72-600s, and four B737-700s, the latter type being 20.2 years of age on average. It owns its entire fleet, but according to Eye Witness News it is likely to lease any new arrivals. Other local news sources said that the chief executive put the number of A220s it would order at eight to ten.

In parallel, Cooper explained that Bahamasair had faced supply chain issues with Pratt & Whitney regarding the engines of its ATR - Avions de Transport Régional fleet, which has resulted in delays of up to 150 days in the delivery of any repairs. To address this, the company has reportedly acquired another turboprop “because we see the demand for travel between the islands growing.”

Bahamasair was not immediately available for further comment to ch-aviation.
